DEERPARK BOARD ANNOUNCES GRANT APPLICATION FOR PROPOSED WATER AND SEWER DISTRICT
Board Indicates First Step to Spur Future Economic Development

(For Immediate Release - 2-22-2010)
(HUGUENOT, NY) - The Deerpark Town Board detailed formal plans and gave authorization to the Town Supervisor to apply for grant opportunities to create a water and sewer district within the town at its regular town board meeting Monday night. The town is seeking federal and state grants and low interest loans to create the district which would be located right off of Exit 1 on Interstate 84 and along U.S. Route 6. The total anticipated cost of the project, which includes both water and sewer, would be $12,000,000 and would be funded mostly through federal and state grants.

"This proposal is one of the most serious and progressive steps that this town has taken in almost 15 years," said Supervisor Brabenec. "This project could have a significant impact on future economic development within the town and we needed these plans in place to be a serious contender for any future funding opportunities."

"Water and sewer is crucial to attract future business in the area," said Deerpark Councilman David M. Hoovler. "Our town is in desperate need of ratables to ease the burden to our residential taxpayers and this project will help to spur these efforts."

The town is applying for Drinking (Water) and Clean Water (Sewer) Grants and Loans through the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation. The town board also passed resolutions declaring itself lead agency in the SEQR process and prepared a short form environmental assessment form. The application will be placed on a project list for future funding opportunities.
